Xinjiang Institute of Engineering is the only independent public engineering undergraduate college in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It was formed in 1958 by 163 officers and soldiers from the Second Preparatory School of the General Logistics Department of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. It was originally the Xinjiang Coal Mine School. In 1985, it was renamed Xinjiang Coal Technical College, and in 1994 it was renamed Xinjiang Industrial Technical College. In 2012, it was upgraded to Xinjiang Institute of Technology with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The school is located at the foot of Tianshan Mountain, beautiful Urumqi, with four campuses.
