Wuhan Textile University came into being in response to the call for the revitalization of the national light industry in New China. Its predecessor was Wuhan Institute of Textile Technology, founded in 1958, and was renamed Wuhan Institute of Science and Technology in 1999. Hubei Foreign Trade School and Hubei College of Finance and Economics have been merged in successively and renamed Wuhan Textile University in 2010.
The school upholds the school motto of "Advocating Truth and Beauty", carrying forward the university spirit of "Continuous self-improvement, steadfastness and latitude", adheres to characteristic development, implements open education, and actively serves the textile industry and local economic and social development.
