The University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusophony is an autarchy linked to the Ministry of Education of the Federative Republic of Brazil, headquartered in the city of Redenção, state of Ceará. It was created by Law No. 12,289, of July 20, 2010, and installed on May 25, 2011. According to the law, Unilab aims to provide higher education, develop research in different areas of knowledge and promote university extension , with the specific institutional mission of training human resources to contribute to the integration between Brazil and the other member countries of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), especially African countries, as well as promoting regional development and cultural, scientific exchange and educational.
Unilab's administrative and academic activities are concentrated in the Brazilian states of Ceará and Bahia. In Ceará, the university has units in the municipalities of Redenção and Acarape. In Bahia, Unilab is present in the municipality of São Francisco do Conde.
