Hubei University of Economics was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education in September 2002. It is a full-time general undergraduate college sponsored by the Hubei Provincial Government. Its history can be traced back to the "Hubei Commercial Middle School" founded by Zhang Zhidong in 1907.
