Hanjiang Teachers College is a full-time provincial general university run by the state. Its predecessor was the Yunyang Normal School of Hubei Province, founded in 1904, and its context can be traced back to the Yunshan Academy in the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. The school was established in 1954, a junior college class was opened in 1975, and it became the Yunyang branch of Central China Normal University in 1977. In December 1978, it was approved by the State Council to establish Yunyang Teachers College. In 1993, it was renamed Yunyang Teachers College with the approval of the former State Education Commission. On March 22, 2016, the Ministry of Education approved the school to be upgraded to an undergraduate college and was renamed Hanjiang Normal College.
