Shanxi Media College is a university jointly established by the State Administration of Radio and Television and the People's Government of Shanxi Province. The predecessor of the school was the North China Radio and Television School established by the former Ministry of Radio and Television in 1983. On this basis, the School of Management Cadres of the Ministry of Radio, Film and Television was established in 1990. It was transferred to the Shanxi Provincial People's Government in 2000 and was upgraded to an undergraduate in 2013. The institution was renamed Shanxi Institute of Media and Communication. In 2018, it was approved as a master's degree granting power project construction and cultivation unit. The school is the third general undergraduate college in public media in the country, and it is also a professional talent training base for the State Administration of Radio and Television.
